For this project, a 2nd year group sculpted 3D self-portraits whilst reflecting on the topic of mental health as it related, first, to themselves, and later, to the mental health challenges faced by young people staying in Ireland under direct provision. The student’s sculptures began as realistic representations of their own heads. As we continued learning about this topic, the heads then transformed to visually represent student’s interpretations of some of the ideas and images talked about in class. The final pieces offer a colourful look at what goes on within students’ heads while learning.
